Micellar Water - A Love Story
I've been in the beauty business for ten years. I've seen trends come and go. Some stick. Some don't. So, when I first heard about this magical elixir of a cleanser I knew I had to get my hands on some. It was all over the magazines, ads, and clients started asking my professional opinion on it. The hunt was on.
Now, I've always been a fan of oil cleansers as they are absolutely amazing at removing makeup. I can even feel blackheads extract themselves during an oil cleanse, but its always necessary to follow up an oil cleanser with a foamy cleanser, otherwise, your face feels like an oil slick. Not to mention the oil has a high probability of clogging your pores when left on the skin. (Also, oil cleansers are fabulous for oily skin and that's a whole other blog post waiting to be written.)
Micellar water is the best of both worlds. Its soft water infused with micelles, hence the name, and micelles are microscopic oils that attach and dissolve the impurities in your skin while absorbing sebum. It is extremely gentle and effective for even the most delicate skin since it doesn't foam up and strip everything off your skin. (If your skin feels dry and tight after you cleanse, then that's a sign your cleanser is too strong for you. Again, another blog post begging to be written.)
The great thing about micellar water is how easy it is to use. All you do is squeeze some onto a cotton round, wipe over your face, and toss. No need to rinse with water or follow up with another cleanser. Suddenly this cleanser is every lazy girl's dream! You mean I don't have to stand over the sink to wash my face and go through the whole routine?!
I'm a licensed esthetician, I've been in the spa industry for ten years, but I'm human, too! I have my lazy nights just like everyone else. My skin is my calling card. I am a slave to it, but some nights I can't be bothered to go through the whole routine. I keep my micellar water on my night stand, along with a pack of cotton rounds so that when I come in from a late night, I can just wipe off the day and knock out. It was a life saver when I spent two weeks in Costa Rica saving sea turtles. I like to travel light and any product that is 3-in-1 (makeup remover, cleanser, and toner) and is actually good is a no brainer.
Great thing is that my favorite skincare line, Eminence, now has a micellar water cleanser! The Rice Milk 3-in-1 Cleansing Water is all natural and organic with a mouth watering scent that reminds me of a tropical cocktail. Anyone who knows me know that I am severely sensitive to scents, but this one doesn't bother me one bit as it dissipates quickly so don't let that deter you from experiencing this little beauty. A few of the key ingredients are:
- Rice Milk: naturally rich in phytic acid, a wonderful lightener, that hydrates and tightens skin.
- Pomelo Juice: like a shot of wheatgrass, rich in anti-oxidants and vitamins that stimulate collagen for firmer younger looking skin.
- Witch Hazel: a powerful anti-inflammatory agent to calm and soothe.
Pick some up at the studio and you'll fall in love with it as much as I have! Mention the blog for 10% off.
Micellar water didn't change my skin but it certainly has made my life easier. Everyone needs a little micellar water in their life for those lazy nights and travel. I had a friend that took it with her to the hospital when she was having a baby. Proper skincare is important.
