How To Get Nearly Invisible Pores

Pores. Pores. Pores.

Something I hear a lot about in the treatment room is how women just HATE the size of their pores. They want them smaller, even invisible!

They want porcelain smooth poreless skin, and I will level with you- I do too… And I’m a professional.

However, when I ask what these women what they do at home to shrink those pores all I hear are crickets.

You mean I can do stuff at home for this?

Yes, yes, a thousand times YES!

Let’s start with a morsel of truth: Your pore size is somewhat determined by your genetics. If you’ve got visible pores, you can see, they will always be somewhat visible. However, we can definitely make those pores look smaller & keep them cleaned out!  All you have to do is follow this pore refining routine and you will fall in love with your skin.

STEP 1: The Double Cleanse

First and foremost, you must cleanse your skin not just once, but TWICE, every single day. I know, I know... You’re thinking that’s too much work, but, your pores aren’t gonna get any smaller if you don’t put the work in to get them that way. That means they are still visible & your skin will not get that beautiful look you keep saying you want.

So, why a double cleanse?

When you wash your face at night, and remove the cleanser, if there’s makeup on the washcloth then that means you need to cleanse again. Your makeup is still sitting on your skin clogging your pores. The first cleanse is great at releasing makeup and starting the cleansing process, and the second cleanse goes in and finishes the process.

The best double cleanse routine starts with an oil cleanser. (Yes, oil cleanser.) Oil attracts oil, so an oil cleanser is going to help pull any oil sitting in those pores out, making them enlarged. That’s why it is so important to follow up with a hydrating gel cleanser or resurfacing cleanser to get your skin squeaky clean & without leaving it parched and dry. My favorite cleansing duo is Eminence’s Stone Crop Cleansing Oil and Stone Crop Gel Wash.

STEP 2: The Double Exfoliation

Do not do this step every day. I repeat: do not do this step every day.

You will over exfoliate your skin and cause premature aging… No, thank you.

This step should be done once a week.

So, what’s a double exfoliation look like?

You start with a gentle scrub. NOT that apricot scrub stuff that scratches your face up and damages your skin.

Trust me, you want a gentle scrub with small grains. I like Eminence’s Stone Crop Fizzofoliant for this step.

Follow it with a chemical exfoliating peel serum. Don’t let the word ‘chemical' scare you, friends. It just means its a liquid exfoliation instead of a physical exfoliation, like scrubs.

Why do both?

The physical scrub removes the top layer of dead skin and that allows the acid to go deeper into your skin and pores clearing everything the scrub missed. I’m in love with Eminence’s Bright Skin Exfoliating Peel, all I have to do is wipe it on and I’m done. Perfect for my lazy nights.

STEP 3: Mask

Use a pore refining mask once or twice weekly.

This does not mean to use a clay based mask as those are incredibly drying for your skin which is the exact opposite of what you want. Clay/mud based masks deplete your skin of both oil AND water, which makes your skin produce more oil to compensate! The exact opposite of what you want. There are pore refining masks that hydrate and make your pores smaller, like Eminence’s Raspberry Pore Refining Masque, a client favorite!

STEP 4: Resurfacing Serum

In order to help keep your pores from getting clogged and enlarged, you need to be using a daily resurfacing serum. The daily resurfacing serum is a mild daily exfoliant that helps keep dead skin cells, oils, and impurities from settling in your pores. I like Eminence’s new Mangosteen Daily Resurfacing Serum. Its effective, but gentle enough not to cause redness, flaking, irritation, and/or premature aging. PLUS, its main active ingredient is lactic acid, the ideal exfoliant!

That’s my ideal Pore Refining Routine & I love it! My makeup applies seamlessly and I get daily compliments about how beautiful my skin looks. Follow this routine, and you’ll be looking and feeling great, too!
